Latin name: Sambucus nigra. Undiluted organic mother tincture made from the fresh leaves and flowers of the elderberry bush. The most commonly used names in Dutch are 'black elderberry or black elderberry'. Other names are: elder, European elder, common elder, elderberry and there are many other name species.
The name 'Sambucus' refers to the old name for elder tree and means 'nigra', 'black', referring to the black berries, which later turn red when ripe. The redder the berries, the riper the elder is and this ripening process takes place in September and October.
The elder is native to Europe, Western Siberia, North Africa and North America. The elderberry bush is a tall shrub or small tree that grows up to 6 to 8 meters high. It has its inflorescence from May to July with beautiful pink-white umbels on which berries are produced.
