Combination tips: Echinacea
Origin and traditional application
Echinacea was already used by the indigenous peoples of North America, including the Sioux and Cheyenne, who valued the plant for its purifying and protective properties.
In the 19th century, Echinacea was introduced to Europe, where it quickly found its place in herbal medicine. To this day, Echinacea is used by herbalists and natural health enthusiasts to support the immune system** and maintain natural balance.
Botany of Echinacea
Echinacea purpurea is a perennial plant in the Asteraceae family and grows to a height of 70–100 cm. It is striking for its composite flower, which consists of approximately 20 purple-pink ray florets. These unfold around a spiky, grayish- to reddish-brown center. The plant blooms from July to September and attracts a large number of bees and butterflies. It is striking that the flower takes on different shapes during flowering: it initially reaches upward, later horizontally, and the ray florets finally droop.
Botanical variants Echinacea
Echinacea purpurea is descended from the original varieties Echinacea pallida Nutt. and Echinacea angustifolia DC. These original species originated in the central prairies of North America, where they thrive in sunny, open areas with fertile, well-drained soil.Nowadays Echinacea is cultivated all over the world and in Europe we are particularly fond of Echinacea purpurea because of its powerful effect.
