Origin and traditional use

Echinacea was already used by the indigenous peoples of North America, including the Sioux and Cheyenne, who valued the plant for its purifying and protective properties.

In the 19th century, Echinacea was introduced to Europe, where it quickly found its place in herbal medicine. To this day, Echinacea is used by herbalists and nature lovers to support the immune system** and maintain a natural balance.

Botany of Echinacea

Echinacea Purpurea is a perennial plant from the composite family (Asteraceae) and grows 70 – 100 cm tall. She stands out because of her composite flower, which consists of approximately 20 purple and pink ray florets. These unfold around a spiky, gray to reddish brown heart. The plant blooms from July to September and attracts plenty of bees and butterflies. It is striking that the flower takes different shapes during flowering: it first reaches upwards, later horizontally and the ray florets eventually droop.

Botanical variants of Echinacea

Echinacea Purpurea descends from the original variants Echinacea pallida Nutt. and Echinacea angustifolia DC.These original species originated on the central prairies of North America, where they grow in sunny, open areas with nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. Nowadays Echinacea is grown all over the world and in Europe we are particular fans of Echinacea purpurea because of its powerful effect.

Dosage and use

Usage

Internally

Take 30 to 60 drops (a dessert spoon) with (carbon-free) spring water 3 times a day for a maximum of 10 days. Then stop treatment for 10 days or more and repeat the ten-day routine if necessary.

Externally

A few drops of Echinacea <tc>Tincture</tc> (possibly mix with a few drops of teasel<tc>Tincture</tc>) and rub it lightly into the area before going to sleep. <tc>Tick bite</tc>.

Always start the treatment with a low dose. The more severe the symptoms, the lower the starting dose. This is to prevent a lot of toxins from being released at once (due to the death of germs). Because toxins are always released (even at low doses), you should drink a lot of water during the treatment and use detoxification and elimination agents at the same time.

First week 3 x 5 drops per day, then increase to 3 x 15 drops per day.

Intensive treatment

First week 3 x 10 drops per day, then increase to 3 x 20 drops per day.
