Milk thistle tincture
Silybum Marianum
Description
Product description
Latin name: Silybum marianum or carduus marianus. The milk thistle is a large, graceful plant with glossy, marbled, spiky leaves. It is a biennial plant that grows up to 1.5 metres in one season. The most striking features are the white-spotted leaves and the spines around the leaf edge. Each stem ends in a purple-red thistle-shaped flower that blooms in July, August and September.
The plant is a composite and family of plants such as daisy. The numerous purple tubular flowers ripen into dark fluffy seeds. The dried seeds contain substances that have a medicinal effect. The edible plant sows easily and likes sandy soil and full sun. Bumblebees, butterflies, bees and birds ensure pollination. It originates from southern Europe and has come north on its own and has become wild here.
The effect has been scientifically very well researched in relation to other plants. Milk thistle owes its name to the Virgin Mary.
