Support the body with herbs

What is the Buhner Protocol?

The Buhner Protocol was developed by Stephan Harrod Buhner, an author known for his work on nature, indigenous cultures, the environment and herbal medicine. He comes from a family of natural healers, with his great-grandfather, C.G. Harrod, practiced herbal medicine as a physician in Indiana in 1911.

In 2005, Stephen Buhner published the book "Healing Lyme: Natural Healing and Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis and its Co-infections". This was one of the first books to introduce a holistic approach to treating Lyme. The book focused on the use of herbs. Since then, many people have used the Buhner Protocol to recover from Lyme.

The 4 facets of the Buhner Protocol

The Buhner Protocol includes four major facets that are crucial to understanding and treating the disease.

Mechanisms of the body: The body uses specific mechanisms, such as inflammation, to break down collagen tissue and generate nutrients for survival.

Symptom location: Where tissue breakdown occurs, symptoms begin. For example, arthritis begins in the joints and neurological Lyme presents in the meninges

Immune system and Lyme:The functioning of the immune system and Lyme are closely linked. Changes in immune markers correlate with disease severity.

Effectiveness of antibiotics: Antibiotics are not always effective in treating Lyme.

Buhner's treatment

Buhner's treatment focuses on five key points:

  1. Stopping inflammation:
This helps prevent the breakdown of collagen tissue.
  2. Support collagen production:
    Strengthen collagen in the body.
  3. Specific treatment for individual symptoms:
Adjust treatment based on unique symptoms.
  4. Strengthening the immune system:
This helps the body fight the infection.
  5. Use of anti-spirochetes:
Control the infection with herbs that target the spirochete bacteria. (This thin spiral-shaped bacterium spreads quickly throughout the body, thanks to its swishing tail).

Treat with the Buhner Protocol?

The Buhner Protocol is an approach to the treatment of several infectious diseases, including Lyme disease. Developed by Stephen Harrod Buhner, an American author and herbal expert, the protocol uses herbal medicine and nutritional supplements to support the immune system and help the body fight infections.

The Buhner Protocol is based on the idea that strengthening the immune system and addressing the underlying causes of the disease can be more effective than just treating the symptoms. Buhner believes that certain herbs have antimicrobial properties that can help kill bacteria such as Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease.

The protocol often involves a combination of different herbs and nutritional supplements, which can vary depending on the person's specific symptoms and needs. Some of the herbs commonly used in the Buhner Protocol for Lyme include Japanese knotweed, cat's claw, smilax, and Andrographis.

It is important to note that the Buhner Protocol is not recognized by all physicians and there is limited scientific evidence to support its effectiveness. People considering following this protocol should discuss it with a qualified healthcare provider and should use caution when using herbal supplements, especially if they are taking other medications or have health problems.
